From the sellers...
We bought 1025 and 1021 Calif. Ln. planning to build a new contemporary house with extensive gardens and a sport court. We spent years fussing over every detail of design, architecture, finishes and landscape choices. But at our age (75) life priorities have a way of shifting. Selling this house will be bittersweet.
We love this location for its privacy and views. While Seattle can boast a lot of view property, it is rare to have the combination of privacy, green forest in the foreground, blue sea in the middle ground, and snow-capped mountains in the background tinged with vivd summer sunsets and winter morning Alpenglow. Not bad for urban living to sit on the deck with a cup of coffee watching the sailboats, ferries, barges and tugs. Walk across the street to Hamilton Viewpoint Park and you have the best Cityscape view of Seattle and the Cascade Mountains to the east, day and night.
We love this location for easy access to the best commute in town — the public water taxi— a walk-on ferry that skims you across Elliott Bay to downtown in 12 scenic, stress-free minutes. You can just walk downhill to the water taxi or hop on the shuttle that passes by the end of the Lane. Headed to the airport? A 20 minute drive.
The same short walk downhill also gives you access to the walk/bike path to beaches and restaurants.
We love this location for its wildlife — to hear a sea lion barking, watch an eagle fly by with a fish in its mouth, marvel at the wingspan of a passing heron, spot a forest otter shuffling through the brush.
In our longer letter,
accessible here, we recount many of the unique details of the house that we are proud of and sad to part from — the hidden, pull-out kitchen vent, the jetted sink in the laundry room, the steam shower with a huge picture window of the sky, the muralist painting of kitchen electrical outlets, the rapid EV charging outlets, an indoor firepit, the effort to insure that rooms— even the basement and garage —have natural light from multiple angles, and more.
We hope to sell this property to a buyer who shares our enthusiasm for the special features of this location and the little details we worked so hard to incorporate into making this house unique.
